about

This track was inspired by the fact that Tom Waits has written no songs referencing Latin American locations. Jonathan decided to channel Tom as best he could to address this tragic slight to the continent.

The Chorus was inspired by the history of the Potosi silver mine in Bolivia, the wealth from which helped fund the Spanish Empire (and build the Bolivian Capital of La Paz) -- at the cost of hundreds of thousands of Native American lives.

lyrics

Listen at night you can still hear the moans
The truth is heavy when you roll back the stones
Mountains made of money
It's all dug up with bones
Can't buy back your history because
There ain't no Peace in La Paz
