It was supposed to be a joke. A late afternoon lark.
It wound up being the title track.
This odd duck of a tune is unlike anything else we've done. We had spent a long day at Jonathan's house, fishing, eating wings off the smoker on the deck, having a beer or two. It was a lovely late August day. Then we went down to the studio, because why not? Blake's son, Evan, picked up a percussion instrument and started a rhythm. We all joined in. "This is fun. Put a mic in the room. Roll tape. What the hell." Someone said, "Let's improvise a song." So we did. Evan grabbed a bass and improvised a deviously catchy riff. Jonathan dusted off his Strat and playfully tinkered along. And Blake freestyled some lyrics, feeling the vibe of a Skid Row romantic, but tapping into something deeper. There was no plan. There were no second takes. This was supposed to be a joke. And then we couldn't get it out of our heads. Here you go. Thanks for indulging us.
